Grade 6 2020 to Year 7 2021

At Grovedale College we believe that the process of transition to secondary school begins as early as Grade 5. Hence, the transition program at the College spans Grades 5, 6 and 7. We encourage parents and students to take advantage of the opportunities provided to visit and become familiar with our College.

YEAR 7 INFORMATION EVENING

Due to COVID-19 this event unfortunately had to be cancelled. There is no substitute for visiting our College and meeting the wonderful staff and students but we have tried to encapsulate the personality and the strengths of our College in this video below. We encourage you to hear from the students and staff themselves.

INFORMATION PACKS & TOURS

During Term 1 & Term 2, Grovedale College normally provide Transition Visits to a wide range of local Primary Schools as well as weekly tours for parents. Through these tours we provide parents and students with a pack outlining a range of information about Grovedale College. To aide parents in understanding more about Grovedale College we have provided those documents below as digital copies.

If you cannot print off copies of these documents you may collect a hard copy pack from our school office during normal hours 9am – 3.30pm.

If you would like further information in lieu of a tour please call 5245 4545 and someone from the College will give you a call and we discuss any questions you have.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Grovedale College offers 4 scholarships for incoming Year 7 students. Please see this page for further information – Year 7 Scholarships

Scholarship initial applications are due by Monday 1st June. Please complete the preliminary application by downloading the Scholarships Brochure above.

IMPORTANT DATES

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Department of Education have changed the timeline for applications and correspondence with parents. Please see the adjusted timeline:

  • Friday May 29 – All applications for Year 7 Placement are to be returned by parents to their primary school
  • Wednesday 19th August – Primary Schools begin notifying parents of placement offers in writing
  • Thursday 20th August – Parents can lodge appeals with Secondary Schools
  • Thursday 10th September – Grovedale College Welcome Evening Webex Presentation 1
  • Tuesday 15th September – Grovedale College Welcome Evening Webex Presentation 2
  • Thursday 17th September – Grovedale College Welcome Evening Zoom Presentation

We are hosting 2 via the Department of Education’s preferred platform of Webex and the 3rd presentation will be conducted by Zoom. Please see below for the details, links and passwords. How to Connect to Webex Events

We have created a small video on how to join our Webex Event for the first two online presentations. You have 2 choices – chrome extension or a temporary application. Our suggestion is to use the temporary application.

Parents are advised to visit the Department of Education’s transition page for any further information. If you have a child at a Catholic or Private Primary School you can find the relevant applications on this page to apply for a Government Secondary School.

2021

BYOD

In 2021 all new students in Year 7 will purchase a Microsoft Surface Go, as the College recommended device. This device will be used in classes throughout the College and is a recommended tool for student learning at Grovedale College. Please see the attached BYOD Information Sheet for further details on purchasing options.

School Photos

School photos will take place on Monday 1st February. Parents will be able to order online through our Compass Portal as well as by bringing in an envelope which will be provided on the first day of Term.

Camp

All Year 7 students attend a 3 day camp early in the year.  The activities are designed to encourage students to make new friends and to give the staff an opportunity to get to know their new students.
